LIGA CAMPEON!

So went to my first Ecuadorian futbol game yesterday. Oh my god. Crazy. Insane. This picture gives you a little taste of it. It was the semifinals to the Copa Sudamerica (South American Cup) so clearly, a big deal. It was also Liga, one of the biggest and best teams in Quito/Ecuador/South America, who has diehard fans (liguistas). The entire stadium was wearing Liga jerseys (we all bought some for $5 outside the stadium) and it was just crazy. You know how like when an American Football team wins, they have balloons and shreaded paper and toilet paper everywhere? The Ecuadorians did that when the team walked on the field. Yeah... We also destroyed the Brasilian team 5-1. It was great. Every time there was a goal, the entire stadium went nuts and because we were standing right behind the goal we would jump up onto the chain link fence in front of us and go nuts.
The chants the fans sang were awesome. Super offensive. Much singing about the other team's mothers, sexual orientation/virility, etc. Although it took over an hour in the line to just get INTO the stadium (as well as riot police and scary dogs to keep people from cutting in line), we still had great seats and an awesome time. Made me miss UH football alot (the one sport I will go absolutely loca for), but oh man, SO GOOD.
